happy new year!

New Year’s Eve is always the time to reflect back on the previous year. I want to thank all of the wonderful couples and parents of the awesome children that I have been so blessed to work with this past year. My business has grown so much and a huge part of it is the referrals from all my clients to their friends and families. It means so much to me to have all of you be a special part of my life as I share the special days and document the moments so important to you all. I am looking forward to 2007 and the next chapter in my life.

Many blessings! peace and happiness in 2007. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

tera and kipp

Tera and Kipp are such an awesome couple. I did their engagement session in Raleigh a few weeks ago. I have been working with couples to make their engagement sessions more about them and their likes and interest rather than just standing around in a pretty location looking at the camera. When Tera returned their “get to know you” survey, she had put that their favorite thing to do was to hang out and cook together. Tera teaches summer school at Duke on East Campus and then her students put their writing manifestos on the graffiti wall. So, we started their e-session on campus, went to the graffiti wall (there was some interesting graffiti that day), shot in the American Tobacco area and then we went to the grocery store near their house. They picked up the supplies and wine and we went to their house, shot some in front of the Christmas tree with the dogs and they cooked dinner. It was an awesome shoot and I am so happy that they love the photos. Tera is my blog stalker and I think it is so great that she is so interested in the work that I am doing. I am really looking forward to their wedding in West Virginia in March.

samantha and josh

Samantha and Josh had a beautiful wedding yesterday at Lake Junaluska in the chapel. For a December wedding, the weather was awesome. It was really overcast, but I like the deep saturation it brings. Samantha’s mom put everything into this wedding. The details were incredible, from the silk runner with their new monogram, to the many lighted evergreen trees in the chapel and reception hall, to the gorgeous floral arrangements, the monogrammed cake and the limo driving them to Atlanta for their honeymoon flight to Jamaica. Samantha met Josh when she was 16 and even though they didn’t start dating until after she left for college, she told her mom that day that she had met the man she was going to marry.

I have had to wait for 2 1/2 months to be able to post Samantha’s bridal portraits. We shot these at the Balsam Mountain Inn and up at Water Rock Knob in the middle of October. Samantha’s dress is stunning. It is so not an off the rack David’s Bridal dress. I wish I had remembered to ask who the designer is. The bodice with it’s detail work and beading and the flowing gathered skirt made her look absolutely breathtaking. No wonder Josh was audibly crying during the vows.

merry christmas!

I just wanted to say “Merry Christmas” to any of you who happen to stop by. It just a few minutes before Christmas Eve and I spent the evening shooting Terry and Chip’s wedding at Grove Park Inn. It was so nice meeting all of their family that came to share such a special time with them. Grove Park is super decorated as usual. We did a few family photos with the kids yesterday in the lobby with the big Christmas tree and the sleigh and “reindeer”. It’s great that they started out their new married life with a new family photo.

This year has been so hard for me personally, but so blessed professionally. My business has really grown and I am looking forward to 2007. I want to thank all of my wonderful clients for being so cool and supportive. I have met some great photographers and developed a lot of new friendships. I’m excited to get to host the new Asheville PUG (Pictage User Group) and can’t wait for the LaCour workshop in February. I have over 20 weddings already booked for 2007 and several other dates that will be officially taken after the holidays.

Wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with peace and happiness!

feeling guilty about blogging / not blogging

The last 3 months have been both such a blessing and totally overwhelming! I figured out yesterday that there are 40 photo sessions that I have not blogged. That really freaked me out. I have been working so hard on getting everyone’s photos done, most of them in a timely manner. I haven’t felt that I should take the time to blog when clients are waiting on their photos. I am up to my eyeballs in getting Christmas cards and prints done for the holidays. But I didn’t realize how important the blog is to some of you. Thanks to Tera, my blog stalker, for pointing out that she hasn’t seen a new slideshow in months! I think it is so cool that a bride who has already hired me (months ago) is so excited about me photographing her wedding that she has to see all the other slideshows! I had to write down some links for her after their engagement session on Saturday. So, for those of you who have been waiting….. Here’s a few links to tide you over.
